Water Polo Tour Details

Location: Greece
Dates: Aug. 6th-14th. 2024
Total: $3995

Included

  • Eight nights lodging accommodations​ (4 nights in Athens, 2 nights in Volos, 2 nights in Thessaloniki)

  • Three meals, daily
     

  • All transportation while in Greece, including a private charter bus for all tour activities

  • Six water polo training sessions––this includes training sessions with U.S. college coaches, mixed training sessions with local club teams, mixed games with local club teams (U.S. and Greek athletes combined together), friendly games against local club teams (U.S. v Greece)

  • Three leadership development workshops led by current collegiate coaches

  • At least one community service activity

  • All excursions outlined in the trip itinerary
     

  • Beyond Sports t-shirt

  • International health insurance

Not Included

  • Round-trip airfare to Greece

 

  • Personal expenses (i.e. souvenirs and snacks)​

  • Passport and baggage fees, if applicable​

  • Trip cancellation/interruption insurance (optional)

Accommodations

All overnights are in 3 or 4-star accommodations. Participants will share a room with another traveler, however, every participant will have their own bed.

Capacity

This tour is capped at 24 student-athletes and will have two rosters. Rosters spots are filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Interested athletes are encouraged to deposit as soon as they are ready in order to guarantee their spot on the tour.

Payment

A $250 deposit is required to reserve your spot for the tour. The remaining balance is paid in a series of installments. The deposit deadline is May 15th, 2024.

Tour Itinerary

August 5 - Travel Day
If you are traveling from the US, you will need to depart from the US on August 5th in order to arrive in Greece on August 6th.
 

August 6 - Athens
Arrive to Athens Airport (ATH). Your tour coaches will be there waiting for you. You will be shuttled to the hotel for check-in followed by a health and safety orientation, our first team practice, and a welcome dinner.

August 7 - Athens
Guided tour of Athens including the world renowned Acropolis, Acropolis Museum and Parthenon. Afternoon exploration of the picturesque Monastiraki and Plaka neighborhoods. Team practice followed by your first leadership session led by your tour coaches.

August 8 - Athens
Embark on a full-day cruise exploring the Saronic Islands. Immerse yourself in the serene beauty of the Saronic beaches, peruse charming shops, and indulge in a diverse selection of exquisite Pistachio products throughout the islands. Overnight in Athens.

August 9 - Athens
Morning tour of the prestigious Olympic Aquatic Center, followed by an opportunity to delve into the fascinating history showcased at the Olympic Museum. Afternoon free time at the hotel before departing for Game #1 against a local Greek club. Overnight in Athens.

August 10 - Volos
Morning bus departure to the captivating coastal city of Volos. Nestled at the foothills of Mount Pelion and overlooking the Pagasetic Gulf, Volos combines natural beauty with a rich history. Afternoon hotel check-in followed by free time to explore the city center. Evening practice and leadership session. Overnight in Volos

August 11 - Volos
Half day excursion to Mount Pelion––known for it's natural wonder and connection to Greek mythology. In the afternoon, learn how to make authentic Greek cuisine and enjoy team bonding time during a cooking class. Game #2 in the evening vs. a local club team. Overnight in Volos

August 12 - Thessaloniki
Morning bus departure for Thessaloniki. Stop along the way at a beach water park to spend a much deserved afternoon soaking up sun, enjoying the water activities, and grab lunch. Evening hotel check-in, final leadership session and overnight in Thessaloniki.

August 13 - Thessaloniki
Morning bike tour of Thessaloniki––often referred to as the "co-capital" of Greece, this waterfront city is known for an atmosphere where the ancient past seamlessly blends with modern society. Bike along the waterfront promenade as you take in the sights and historical landmarks throughout the city. Afternoon service-learning activity before heading to your final game and a farewell dinner to follow. Overnight in Thessaloniki.

August 14 - Travel Day
Say our goodbyes as we head to Thessaloniki (SKG) Airport for a full day of travel back to the U.S.A. 

Please understand that the final itinerary may change slightly based on the confirmed game schedule. We will do our best to follow this exact itinerary.

Leadership Curriculum

The leadership workshops in the itinerary are adapted from our sports leadership program, the Girls Leadership Academy for Service & Sport (GLASS).

Hosted in Costa Rica, this 10-day leadership intensive program is designed for high school female athletes from all sports.

Hope served as the assistant women's water polo coach at San Diego St. Univ. from 2021 - 2023. She is a current Beyond Sports Tour Coordinator and will be one of our water polo tour coaches.

Morgan is the current assistant women's water polo coach at California State University Monterey Bay. She will be one of our high school water polo tour coaches.

Molly is a Beyond Sports High School Tour Coordinator. She is also the assistant lacrosse coach at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA.

Accept Your Invitation

If you received an invitation via email you can accept your invite to begin registration. If you did not receive an invite, but you are interested in joining the tour, please complete our tour application.

2.
Register & Deposit

When you are ready to commit to the tour, submit your $250 deposit to reserve your spot. The full cost of the tour is not due immediately. Payment deadlines are outlined in registration.

3.
Begin Travel Prep

Once deposited, your tour coordinator will connect with you to share pre-departure information. We encourage all students who do not have a valid passport to apply for a passport as soon as possible!

Greece Tour FAQ

How was I selected for this tour?
We reach out to high school and club coaches across the country in search of the top performers and leaders in high school girls water polo.

 

Any students who did not receive an invitation are welcome to apply for the tour.

Can a family member or teammate travel with me?
Parents and family are welcome to accompany you to Greece; however, there is not a family member travel package. All accompanying family members are responsible for arranging their own hotel accommodations, transportation, activities while in Greece.

Accompanying family members are welcome to attend exhibition competitions. 


How many students-athletes will travel with me?
Our high school tours typically ranges from 12-24 students. 

How will I travel to Greece?
Tour participants are responsible for arranging their own air travel to and from Greece. We provide detailed flight booking instructions in the pre-departure process.

 

If you’re interested in coordinating your travel plans with other tour students, please contact our staff to be connected with your tour teammates.

 

Who will meet me at the airport in Greece?

Your tour coach, Hope, will be waiting for you at the airport in Greece. Once you connect with our team in Greece, our staff and tour coaches will stay with you through the duration of the program.
