Josh Erickson, MBA
Co-Founder, Program Director
Josh co-founded Beyond and is the Program Director and Basketball Director. He's held several head coach positions in Costa Rica including the Men's National Team, Women's National Team, and a Premier Division Professional Team. Before Beyond, he worked for PeacePlayers International, a non-profit organization that uses basketball to bridge social divides around the world and was an Assistant Basketball Coach at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon. Josh has won a Costa Rican National Championship in Costa Rica's top professional division and a gold medal in the Women's Central American Games.
Grant Leslie, MBA
Co-Founder, Director of Program Development
Grant co-founded Beyond and is the Director of Business Development. He is a former three-sport athlete at Willamette University in competing in football, basketball and golf. He quarterbacked the Bearcat football team to an undefeated season ranking 4th in the country and was selected for the J.H. Booth Outstanding Senior Athlete of the Year Award for scholarship, community service and athleticism. Grant studied abroad in Europe during graduate school and served as an Assistant Coach for the Costa Rican National Baseball Team during the 2013 Central American Games.
Marissa Floyd, PhD
Director of Academics
Marissa is our Director of Academics for all Student-Athletes Abroad Programs. A life-long sports enthusiast with a PhD in Relational Communication, Culture, and Sport - she is the perfect academic advisor for our program participants. Having been a professor, administrator focused on student-athlete support, coach and athlete, she is incredibly well-versed in the student-athlete experience. Marissa specializes in curricular development, service-learning, and community relations with all of our academic programs. She lives with her family on Beyond's Playa Flamingo Campus.
Costa Rica Director, Soccer Director
Silvia is Beyond's Costa Rica Director. She is one of Central America's most outstanding athletes having represented Costa Rica on both the National Basketball and Soccer Teams. She played D-I soccer in the United States at Liberty University where she earned 1st team All-Big South Honors. Silvia was equally impressive in the classroom earning Presidential Honor Roll 4 straight years. Silvia continues to play for The Women's National Basketball Team while developing CR's future athletes as a Junior National Team and high school coach.
South Africa Director
Nawaal was born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa and has traveled the world representing her country on South Africa's National Softball Team. She studied Sports and Recreation Management at the University of Western Cape and joined our team from the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation where she worked with dozens of non-profits that use sports as a tool to create social change.
Emily Bastian, MA
Academic Program Development Manager
Emily competed in cross-country and track and field as a college athlete and studied abroad in Northern Italy. Prior to joining Beyond Sports, she completed her MA degree in International Education Management at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies. She's held international education positions at American University and the Institute of International Education where she managed the Fulbright Scholar Program.
Tim Whittle, MEd
Manager of International Sport Tours
Tim joins us as Manager of International Sport Tours. His primary focus is business development of college team trips and high school programs. Previously, Tim coached college Basketball for the last 17 years, including 9 years as the Head Coach at Macalester College, 5 at Washington University in St. Louis (3 Final Four appearances and back-to-back National Championships) and 3 at the University of the South. Tim has also held numerous positions in corporate finance including Manager of Finance with the Florida Marlins in MLB. His wife, Beth has coached swimming and diving for 18 years, they have 2 children.
Holly Axmaker is the Administrative Assistant for Beyond Sports while also pursuing her Masters in Business Administration at Corban University. She is a former Beyond Sports Tours participant, joining us for soccer tours in Italy and Costa Rica. She was an All-Conference soccer player at Corban and earned Cascade Collegiate Conference Newcomer of the Year.
Costa Rica Programs Coordinator
Jefny is a Costa Rica Programs Coordinator and the starting center for Costa Rica's National Basketball Team. He played DI basketball at Southern University in the United States before returning home to Costa Rica. Jefny also plays for ARBA San Ramon in Costa Rica's top division.
Costa Rica Programs Coordinator
Marcela is a Costa Rica Programs Coordinator and Strength and Conditioning Coach. She played Division I volleyball at University of Louisiana Monroe where she holds the records for career and single season digs. She has played for both of Costa Rica's Beach and Indoor National Volleyball Teams. Marce majored in Kinesiology.
Costa Rica Business Operations
Carlos has worked on various projects with Beyond Sports over the past 5 years and joined the team in a full-time role in 2017 as the Costa Rica Business Operations Director. He is a former Account Executive at Banco de Costa Rica (BCR) and professional basketball player for ARBA San Ramon and Liberia.
South Africa Program Coordinator
Samantha was born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa and has traveled extensively for softball. She has a Bachelor's of Commerce (Business) degree from the University of Western Cape and has been assisting Beyond programs in South Africa since 2016. Before joining our staff, she worked in education for 10 years. Sam assists program enrollment/operations and she stays involved in softball as the manager for the Western Cape Provincial Team.
Spain Programs Coordinator
Kris is our Spain Programs Coordinator. She graduated from Claremont McKenna College with a dual degree in anthropology and psychology, and received the Alumni Association Citizenship Award for her service to the school. As a senior she made SCIAC first-team honors for the third year and was named CMC Female Athlete of the Year after leading her basketball team to four league championships and NCAA appearances. For the past two years she has been living in southern Spain as a teacher, while both coaching and competing in her other favorite sport, beach volleyball.
