Josh Erickson
Basketball Director
Josh is a co-founder of Beyond Sports and the former Head Coach of the Costa Rica Men's & Women's National Teams. He lived in Costa Rica for 5 years becoming fluent in Spanish while building Beyond Sports and climbing the coaching ranks. His time living abroad included stints with the Costa Rica Women's National Team and ARBA-San Ramon, where he won a National Championship in Costa Rica's professional league.
Needless to say, Josh is deeply invested in the Costa Rica basketball community. He has also built relationships with basketball federations and top professional clubs in all of the countries where Beyond operates to ensure that you play the best competition available during your tour.
COSTA RICA
Beyond Sports has been actively involved in the Costa Rica basketball community since 2010. Our Basketball Director, Josh Erickson, served as the former Head Coach of both the Men's Senior National Team and Women's National Team, and spent 5 years coaching the first-division team of San Ramon. Costa Rica offers competition for all college and high school levels.
Excursions
Excursions include zip-lining through the rain-forest, white-water rafting, relaxing in the natural hot springs at the base of Arenal Volcano and visiting world-class beaches on the Pacific Coast!
Service-Learning
Service basketball clinics with local youth are an important part of any team's trip to Costa Rica and include working with Special Olympics and local schools in San Jose.

Trip length can range from 6-10 days and include 2-4 games. We offer a number of different hotel packages for groups ranging from 3-star accommodations to 4 and 5 star resorts.
PANAMA
Panama is a great destination specifically for men's teams and offers some of the best competition in Central America. Panama's National Team won the Central America Championship in 2015 followed by a 7th place finish at the 2015 FIBA Americas Championship.
Excursions
Teams will tour the famous Panama Canal and learn about the history of this engineering marvel and it's important role in international trade. Trips are based in the vibrant economic hub of Panama City and excursion options include zip-lining through the rainforest, catamaran tours to the numerous islands off the Pacific and Caribbean Coasts, visits to villages of indigenous tribes and relaxing at the beach at one of Panama's beautiful all-inclusive resorts.

Service basketball clinics with local youth are available in Panama City as well as the Caribbean port city of Colon.

SPAIN
Anyone paying attention to international basketball knows that Spain is one of the top countries in the world in both the Men's and Women's games. The Women's National Team took Silver in Rio and the Men's National Team has been on the podium for the last three Olympic Games. Success at the highest level has been fueled by a world-class basketball ecosystem at the club and university levels.
Excursions
Foreign tours to Spain provide a unique blend of historical and cultural attractions, beautiful white-sand beaches, and the opportunity to visit world-renowned sites in several Spanish cities.

Trip Details
Our standard trips include 3 nights in Madrid, 2 nights on the coast in the port city of Valencia and 3 nights in Barcelona. Spain is a great destination for customizing a trip based on the goals that you have for your team with nearly unlimited options available.
SOUTH AFRICA
South Africa is our most unique destination offering a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience to explore one of the most fascinating countries in the world. Home to one of the most competitive and well organized professional leagues on the continent, South Africa offers competition for every college level.
Excursions
A full menu of bucket list excursion options include safaris, great white shark diving, hiking Table Mountain, and world class beaches. South Africa also offers some amazing cultural sites like the Robben Island tour where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned during the Apartheid Era.

AUSTRALIA
Australia has become a major international player in both men's and women's basketball over the last 20 years producing dozens of NBA and WNBA stars and a consistent flow of D1 recruits. Top clubs and university teams provide ample competition for any US team and the same quality facilities we are used to in the US.
Excursions
Australia trips include sightseeing opportunities including the famous Sydney Opera house and The Great Ocean Road. You'll see unique wildlife including kangaroos and Koalas. Bucket list experiences like snorkeling at the Great Barrier Reef are easy to include in your itinerary!

ITALY
Italy is home to the oldest professional basketball league in Europe and attracts men's and women's players from all over the European Union and the world. Competition is suitable for any US level with Ligabasket Serie A teams providing the strongest competition followed by 8 consecutive lower tiers.
Excursions
Italy tours offer the opportunity to visit several cities with world famous sightseeing along the way. Visits to Rome and the Coliseum, Lake Como, Tuscany, Pisa, and more are sure to be popular among students as well as families joining the adventure.
