Job Description

Student-Athletes Abroad (SAA) is an international education program that provides university student-athletes the opportunity to study abroad during their summer break. Programs run for two to three weeks and combine professional development, athletics, and cultural immersion.

SAA is seeking a Student Life Manager to join our local program team across our various destinations: Costa Rica, Greece, Japan, Northern Ireland, Portugal, South Africa, & Spain.

 

This role is responsible for supporting the wellbeing, safety, and overall experience of program participants while serving as a local cultural ambassador. The successful candidate will help students adapt to their temporary home, manage day-to-day logistics, and foster a positive and inclusive group environment.

 

The Student Life Manager will work closely with the SAA Director and act as the primary local point of contact for participants throughout the program.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent)

  • Strong English proficiency

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Ability to handle unexpected situations with calm, maturity, and professionalism

  • International travel experience

  • Experience working with groups of university or high school students

  • Ability to commit to the full program duration* (please indicate availability in app)

  • San Ramon, Costa Rica: May 22 - July 3, 2026 

  • Valencia, Spain: June 5 - July 17, 2026 

  • Thessaloniki, Greece: June 5 - July 17, 2026

  • Belfast, Northern Ireland: July 11 - July 26, 2026

  • Lisbon, Portugal & Valencia, Spain: May 24 - June 7, 2026

  • Cape Town, South Africa: May 23 - June 13, 2026

  • Tokyo, Japan: June 13 - July 3, 2026

Desired Qualifications (any will go a long way!)

  • Former or current athlete

  • Experience working in the sports industry or similar environments

  • Experience studying abroad or traveling in the United States

  • Currently based in or familiar with the destination city

  • Experience in coaching, group travel coordination, event management, or program coordination

  • Previous experience with Beyond Sports or similar international programs

Key Responsibilities

  • Student Support & Wellbeing: 

    • Maintain regular contact with participants and hold weekly one-on-one check-ins to track internship progress and overall wellbeing. 

    • Respond appropriately to both emergency and non-emergency situations and ensure the safety of all participants throughout the program.

  • Community Engagement & Cultural Experience: 

    • Foster a positive and inclusive group environment by building strong relationships with participants and organizing weekly cultural activities that showcase authentic aspects of local life.

  • Program Logistics: 

    • Support the smooth execution of the program, including welcoming participants on arrival day, leading in-country orientation, accompanying students on their first day of internships, and chaperoning excursions and program activities.

  • Communication & Reporting: 

    • Maintain daily communication with the SAA Director, providing updates on student wellbeing, logistics, concerns, or potential risks.

  • Program Promotion: 

    • Capture and publish program content on social media, helping document the student experience and highlight key moments throughout the program.

Compensation

  • Roundtrip airfare from the US to the program country*

  • International health insurance while abroad

  • International cell service

  • Cash stipend (Range: $500-750 depending on program and experience)

​*Airfare comes with one included checked bag and a carry-on. Any additional baggage fees will be at the expense of staff​.
