Job Description

GLASS Mentors are a team of former college athletes that excelled in leadership, academically and athletically, and who epitomize the ideal role model of a high school student-athlete. They lead our GLASS Students through a transformative international education experience combining leadership and personal development, sport-specific and sports performance training, and service-learning.

 

An exceptional GLASS Mentor is willing to commit 100% to doing everything they can to serve our GLASS Students. We promise an adventure you will remember forever, challenges you can only overcome with a team, and a special sense of fulfillment knowing that you changed the trajectory of a young person's life. We expect that at the conclusion of this experience, you will feel that you gave everything you had, yet somehow you received more in return.

 

We are excited for you to build on the solid foundation created by previous cohorts of GLASS Mentors. And we are eager to see how you adapt and improve the GLASS curriculum in our never-ending mission to create the most empowering leadership, sports and service-learning experience possible!

What we are looking for...

  • Passion for women's empowerment, sports, travel, and service-learning

  • Experience working with youth (13-18 years old)

  • High achievers in the classroom as well as on the playing field

  • Role models, independent problem solvers, team-oriented mentalities, and responsible individuals

  • Personable and positive demeanor

  • Natural aptitude to motivate and energize students in a variety of settings and situations

  • Willingness to work unusual hours and limited time off

Qualifications

  • At least 21 years old

  • Ability to commit to from mid-May through August 2021

  • Former or current athletes

  • College team captain or someone whose coach looked to as a team leader

  • Experience with Spanish (preferred)*

*It is important that some of our mentors have Spanish speaking abilities but it is not necessary that ALL mentors speak Spanish. Our all-time best Mentors have included Spanish speakers as well as individuals who spoke no Spanish when they arrived in Costa Rica and contributed to the team in other areas.

General Responsibilities

  • Ensure the health and safety of all our program participants

  • Serve as a leadership mentor for high school female athletes

  • Help plan and lead sports-performance sessions, leadership development workshops, and service-learning projects

  • Chaperone group excursions

  • Be ready and willing to accept duties assigned by the Program Manager

  • Develop meaningful connections with our program participants

  • Help foster an empowering, positive, and inclusive environment

Compensation

  • Living arrangements in Costa Rica

    • Dorm-style housing on the Beyond Sports Campus in a private bedroom or shared with another fellow

    • Accommodations may change to staff apartments on or near campus during programs

  • Kitchen, bathroom, workspace, fitness gym, yoga studio, basketball court and laundry on campus

  • Three meals, daily

  • $400 USD monthly stipend​

  • $1,000 USD bonus at the end of the summer

  • Roundtrip airfare from the Continental US to Costa Rica* program arrival and program end

  • High-speed internet on campus

  • International health/medical insurance coverage in Costa Rica

​*Any baggage fees will be at the expense of Mentors​

Application Process

Qualified applicants will be offered a GLASS Mentor position on a rolling basis. For this reason we highly encourage interested applicants to complete their applications as soon as possible for review. We will keep the application links live and host interviews until all of the positions are filled.

Round 1: Application 

Apply online. A complete application and resume are required to be considered for this position.


Round 2: Video Interview Submission

If our hiring committee selects your application, you'll be sent an email inviting you to participate in the next round of interviewing. The email will provide you with directions and a username and log in to record a video interview.  Once you receive the email with instructions, you'll have a week to complete this task. The video interview requires a computer, smartphone or tablet with camera and microphone capabilities. 

The next round of candidates will be invited to schedule phone interview with our staff.

Round 3: Phone Interviews

Selection committee will contact applicants in consideration. If your application is selected, you will be invited to schedule a phone interview. Candidates can expect 1-2 phone interviews with our staff.
